Case Studies
A Model for Learning

Dr. Jodi Sandfort, Associate Professor, Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota, has written three case studies on Casa de Esperanza. Dr. Sandfort is part of the Institute's Center on Women and Public Policy Case Study Program. Underwritten by Bremer, the program funds a group of University faculty to write case studies on women's organizations that are important models for study.

Dr. Sandfort chose Casa de Esperanza as her subject because she was impressed with our progression to biculturalism and the centrality of our mission in all our decision-making.

As an organization of women of color, we are gratified by this recognition from a significant academic institution. We're pleased that our history and decisions are instructive and part of the training ground for future leaders.

Cases are frequently used for teaching master's level courses on public policy, management, and nonprofit management. Faculty assign cases for reading and then use them in class as the basis for analysis, debate, and role-plays. The Casa de Esperanza case has been "tested" in a few universities around the country.

The case studies are good reading for anyone wanting to know more about our history, organizational development, and identity.
