Finding Help

What Can You Do?

Finding Help No one deserves to be abused!

If your life is in danger
Call 911. Don't wait! If you are in danger, or your abuser has threatened you, call 911. Domestic violence is a crime, and the police can arrest the abuser.

If your life is not in danger
...and you live in Minnesota--call the Casa de Esperanza crisis line: 651-772-1611. If you want someone to listen to you, support you, or suggest options, call our crisis line at 651-772-1611. The person on the line speaks both Spanish and English.

...and you live outside of Minnesota-call the national toll-free number: 800-799-SAFE (7233) or TTY 800-787-3224.

All the options that we are describing here apply to women in Minnesota and the Twin Cities area, except the safety plans. No matter where you live we encourage you to use the safety plans if they apply to your situation.

If you are a victim of domestic violence, a Family Advocate from Casa de Esperanza can give you emotional support, referrals, or assist you with making decisions and setting goals. We list some options below, and our Family Advocates can also give you more information about them or suggest other options. Call our crisis line: 651-772-1611.

Shelter
You and your children can go to a shelter for battered women. A taxi will pick you up and take you there; and the shelter will pay for it.

If you want to go to a shelter, call our crisis line at 651-772-1611. You can talk to the advocate at our crisis line about options. Our shelter offers short stays and a 24-hour bilingual (Spanish and English) staff. We are also available to work with Latinas staying at other shelters in the Twin Cities.
