Technical Assistance
Casa de Esperanza is solidifying its role as a resource to Latino-serving organizations throughout the United States through a grant from the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW), United States Department of Justice. OVW has funded Casa de Esperanza as a provider of Technical Assistance to OVW grantees.
The significance of this grant is that it permits Casa de Esperanza to enhance support for battered Latinas beyond the Twin Cities to the entire country.
We are excited that the grant also allows Casa de Esperanza to provide technical assistance for Latino domestic violence organizations that are not OVW grantees. Many Latino agencies have very limited resources, need support in organizational development, and—perhaps, most significantly—feel isolated in their work.
The OVW grant also gives Casa de Esperanza the opportunity to provide mainstream domestic violence organizations with tools and cultural understanding that will expand their capacity to serve battered Latinas. These agencies often recognize that Latinos do not access their services and struggle to know how to change the situation. Language limitations as well as cultural differences and misunderstandings often create barriers. Casa de Esperanza’s tools, training, and consultation will assist in breaking down these walls.
For a number of years Casa de Esperanza has been receiving national requests for training and presentations. This exciting project is the “next step” in fulfilling our vision:
Latinas, their families, and communities in Minnesota and throughout the world recognize and act to end domestic violence.

This project was supported by Grant No. 2004-WT-AX-K057 awarded by the Office on Violence Against Women, U.S. Department of Justice. The opinions, findings, conclusions, and recommendations expressed in this publication/program/exhibition are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the views of the Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women.
